LLNYC's look at listings:
There has been a townhouse at 156 East 62nd Street for decades. But recently, a brand spanking new townhouse has sprung up on this particular section of this particular street.
It's current owners, the mysterious and unoriginally named 156 East 62nd Street LLC, snapped it up in 2014 for $7.4 million. Usually we'd scoff at someone upping the price of their pad by more than $10 million in a little over two-and-a-half years, but seeing as they went ahead and rebuilt the whole damn place, maybe we'll hold our judgement this time.
Now, the 7,500-square-foot spread comes with six bedrooms, six bathrooms, a commercial grade elevator, a garden and a roof deck. Plus it has a walk-in glass encased wine cellar, a gym, a cedar sauna, and steam room.
The house -- in it's previous incarnation -- reportedly once belonged to Beatrice Whitney Straight, the late Oscar and Tony Award-winning actress. And, per city records, we also know it was home to the late Sonnai Frock Rohrbeck, an often-controversial artist.
Francis O'Shea of Leslie J. Garfield has the listing.
